Bosque Del Apache NWR

Located just south of Socorro, New Mexico, the Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is a favorite location for bird photographers to gather late every autumn. When I visited for five days in early December 2012, there were roughly 8,000 sandhill cranes and 35,000 snow geese at the refuge. These two beautiful bird species in great numbers and with great access to them, as well as the warm winter daytime temperatures, and the beautiful desert landscape and skies make this refuge one of the most popular for winter bird photography in America. I already can't wait to return to this special place.
